The Unique Blogger Award!

I was pleasantly surprised recently to learn that The Spooky Redhead nominated this site for the Unique Blogger Award! Since I follow that that site and thoroughly enjoy the content, I was especially happy with the nomination. If you've ever read that site, you know what I'm talking about. If you don't, you should! Right now, the site's participating in 31 Days of Ghibli Challenge, which is interesting all by itself. The site also specializes in delivering really good lists, like 5 Things to Know about Avatar: The Last Airbender. Not content with simply providing the world with interesting prose, the site also servers up some thought-provoking poems like A Human: What... Is This? Do yourself a favor and spend some time on The Spooky Redhead!

There Are Rules?

Of course there are rules! Otherwise, how would we tell the awards apart? As The Spooky Redhead passed them on to me, I will now pass them on to you:

  1. Display the award!
  2. Thank the person who nominated you, and post a link to their blog on your blog. (Try and include a little bit of promotion!)
  3. Answer the questions they’ve written for you!
  4. Nominate bloggers and give them three questions in the spirit of sharing love and solidarity within our blogging family!

I will now demonstrate that I can follow instructions!

Display the Award

Think you were surprised that this site was nominated? You could have knocked me over with a feather! Get it? Crow's World of Anime... Knocked over with a feather? Yeah, kinda sounds like a Dad Joke, doesn't i?

And here's the award's emblem! Kinda cool looking, isn't it? It's been around awhile, too... An unscientific Google Search found references at least back to mid-2017.

Thank the Nominator!

"The Nominator" sounds like a role Arnold Schwarzenegger would play. "I'll be back... with nominations!"

That random thought aside, thanks for the nomination, The Spooky Redhead! Much appreciated!

The Questions!

The Spooky Redhead gave her nominees three questions. They are:

What movie are you most excited to see that’s coming out late 2018/early 2019?

It's interesting. The older I get, the fewer movies I get excited about. Pretty soon I'm going to start complaining about loud music and demanding kids get off my lawn.

Who am I kidding? My music's louder than theirs!

I'm most looking forward to First Man. Outside of the anime space, one of my favorite films is Apollo 13 (the link goes to Amazon, and the Blu Ray seems to be about $7.00!), and I hope First Man is cut from the same cloth: a celebration of the can-do spirit humans can show if we have a common and noble goal.

First Man looks like it could be interesting. The casting looks solid, and so do the special effects shots I've seen (unless they rebuilt an Apollo rocket and just filmed that...). Capture from the First Man gallery on the official website.

Are you an organized person?

I'm overly organized... until I'm not. I organize some things to the nth degree, like the series of novels I'm always working on. Other things, I let pile up. I keep my the hard disks on my computers over-organized, but I have two junk drawers -- one for household stuff and one for computer stuff. I was surprised to find an old Apple DVD drive in there one day.

I wondered what had happened to it...

I think this shot of my Monster Musume manga collection sums it up:

Both Monster Musume series are in perfect order (okay, maybe I should have gone right to left to keep in the Japanese spirit...). But the Gurren Lagann art book and To Love Ru - Darkness Blu Ray? Haphazardly tossed on top.  They're not even going the same direction!

Do you have anything signed by anyone that you’re really excited to own?

Speaking of Apollo 13... My wife finds the best holiday gifts. A few years ago, she somehow found a photograph of the real Apollo 13 Mission Control crew, featuring Gene Kranz in the foreground, with Jim Lovell appearing on the big-screen in the background. Best of all? Both Gene Kranz and Jim Lovell has signed the photo! How cool is that?

Apologies for how crooked this is. I had a heck of a time dealing with the glass reflection, and given how clumsy I am, there was no way I was going to disassemble the photo...

There are a ton of unique blogs out there! I ought to know -- I'm following about 230 of them right now! There are three that jumped out at me as having both a unique format and unique content. They are (and no pressure to participate if you don't want to!):

  1. Atelier Emily for me, in full bloom
  2. Floating into Bliss
  3. Galvanic

Here are my questions (and I hope The Spooky Redhead doesn't mind if I shamelessly riff off her questions!):

  1. What anime movie are you most looking forward to in late 2018/early 2019?
  2. How organized is your approach to blogging?
  3. Do you own any exciting or unique anime paraphernalia?

We're lucky we've living in a time when there's such a vibrant ani-blogging community! If you're wondering where to find a list of those sites, please let me offer Crow's World of Anime's Nest of Sites! At the time of this writing, it lists about 230 sites, and I'm sure you will find one -- our a couple hundred! -- that capture your interest!

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Congratulations. I’m super late but congrats all the same lol

I’m the same way with movies. I heardly get excited about movies anymore unless it’s a marvel movie cuz I’m such a nerd.

    1. Thanks!

You know, I’ve even fallen behind with the Marvel movies! Plus, I’m ashamed to admit that I watched Spirited Away for the first time last week! The 25 minute (or so) typical anime episodes just fit better into my schedule!

        1. Ah! That makes a big difference! I usually have time to fit a single episode in. I love binge watching, but I almost need to be sick at home to justify it to myself!

    1. The more organized, the more favorite? The less favorite, the less organized? I kinda think that’s a better answer than mine!

  2. Hmm… Synchronicity. I started watching Monster Girls yesterday when I was sick and just randomly scrolling through Crunchy in search of something mindless to watch.

    1. I’ve always had such tremendous respect for Gene Kranz and what he was able to achieve. All props to Jim Lovell and the crew of Apollo 13, but the team in mission control did their part, too!

In whatever leadership position I’ve held, I’ve tried to apply the ingenuity and spirit of the Flight Directors!

Please let me know what you think!
