Tower of God Season Two Episode 11 – Quick Summary

In Tower of God Season 2 episode 11, “A Thick and Distant Wall,” Horyang Kang thought that Ran and Novick had killed his friend Beniamino Cassano. Understandably upset, Horyang Kang attacked furiously. At first, neither Ran nor Novick took him serious. But the ferocity of his attacks quickly changed their minds. He had them on the ropes. But then they received help from an entirely unexpected quarter. Who came to their aid? Why? And what’s Xia Xia really up to with Viole?

Favorite Quote from Tower of God Season Two Episode 11

Tower of God Season Two Episode 11: Rachel is a bit insane

I’ve been critical of the art this season, but the artist really captured Rachel’s “cray-cray” in this shot. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

For my favorite quote, I’m picking something that Rachel said – something that made me think she’s quite insane.

The quote came toward the end. Apple and Michael had apparently murdered Gyetang. They had also taken Dan Edin prisoner. Dan, arms lashed behind his back, demanded to know why they had betrayed Khun and had killed Gyetang. Apparently confident he could not escape, they explained it to him: FUG had hired them to get rid of Khun, and everyone else was just in the way. Nothing personal.

For some reason, Rachel asked that they spare him. She said he might be of use.

“Let’s climb the Tower together,” she said to him brightly (20:08). “From now on, you can be my legs.”

My first thought was, “Well, I’ve heard that before!” And my second thought was “This woman is completely insane.” She had appeared in front of Dan without her wheelchair. Without even a cane!

I found out moments later that “completely insane” didn’t quite cover her mental state.

Favorite Moment from Tower of God Season Two Episode 11

Tower of God Season Two Episode 11: Khun saw through Viole's bad acting

Viole’s acting skills did not impress Khun. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Well. I knew Rachel was a bit nuts. Turns out I had way underestimated just how nuts. Those last scenes really drove home her state of mind. RIP, poor Dan Edin.

That wasn’t my favorite moment. I’m pretty sure I’ll never pick a moment with Rachel in it as my favorite. She’s a well-written villain, sure. She’s a good anti-Bam. But, and this is proof the writers did their job, I just don’t like her.

However, I do like Khun and his understated sense of humor. In this episode, Xia Xia set up Bam/Viole – he had to either pretend to have been in on the trap for Khun and his team, or Xia Xia would nuke everyone. So, Viole launched into a villain’s speech. What should have been a joyful reunion turned into an apparent betrayal.

Bam tried to module it a bit, much to Xia Xia’s surprise. He tried to say he had decided to spare someone dumb enough to fall into such an obvious trap. He ended by saying (14:30), “Never show yourself before me again.”

Tower of God Season Two Episode 11: Xia Xia didn't expect Viole to protect his friends

She wasn’t expecting Bam to take the conversation in that direction. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

I’m thinking, “Man, that’s tragic – Khun and Bam had just met again! And now they can’t even talk!”

My favorite moment is how Khun responded to his old friend. Smiling, he said (14:41), “If you’re going to play a supervillain, at least practice your acting first. That was so awful, it gave me goosebumps. You’re trying to help me escape, aren’t you?”

I really would like to see that team together again. Those two are great together.

What did you think of Rachel’s last scene? What were your favorite moments? Feel free to let me know in the comments!

  1. I’ll add more rationale for my thoughts, TCrow. It was clear FUG was there to kill Khun and his team. That’s why Xiaxia kept trying to goad Bam into killing Novick and Ran by saying they’re the ones who killed Koryang Kang, who may not even be dead with her possibly bullshitting about him having no heartbeat. They were clearly trying to pressure Bam into doing that to reduce the possibility of Bam reconciling with Khun when he arrived or in the future. That’s the main reason I believe it doesn’t make such sense for Xiaxia to have wanted Bam to pretend to be a villain.

Thus, Bam acted in the only way he thought he could without directly trying to fight Cassano or Xiaxia since fighting FUG would probably have consequences, which was to pretend to be a villain to try and scare Khun off, which Khun saw through, which is why Bam indicated he’s not match for Khun in wits.

    1. Right — though Xia Xia also made it clear Viole was a Slayer candidate, and that made him a villain from the perspective of the Regulars. At least, that was my impression — given that he was to murder all of them. Though candidly, I don’t remember if the Regulars know they’ll be a target.

  2. This was definitely my favorite episode out of the whole second season, it was also the episode with the least new characters and the most season one characters. Rachel is an awful person, but she makes such a gooooood bad guy! I loved seeing Kuhn being his old more clever then everyone self, I loved seeing Bam show a little glimmer of his old sweet self, I loved seeing Rachel be her super creepy and evil self, I just wish I didn’t have to wait until episode 11 to see all that. I’m really hoping that there’s more than 12 episodes in the second season and we get to see more episodes like this.

    1. LiveChart lists Tower of God as a Fall 2024 anime, so it’s probably a 2-cour. They don’t know how many episodes there are going to be, though.

    2. Just seeing Khun again changed my feelings about the whole episode.

And regarding Rachel — I know, right? She’s got everything a good villain needs, including motivation and drive.

And have you seen episode 11 yet? Dang…

  3. Maybe I misinterpreted it, but I don’t think FUG intended for Bam to pretend to be a villain. The threat was that if Bam didn’t leave with Xiaxia and Cassano they’d kill two of his friends.

Bam did what he did to try to stall for time and let Khun know it wasn’t safe although that only made Khun more curious about who he was.

I don’t remember the message/instructions indicating that Bam had to play along. He merely did so for Khun’s sake.

    1. I think you’re likely right. I had the sense that Viole tried to pretend to be a villain to convince Khun to stay away. Good thing Bam can’t act to save his life!

If you take a look around 11:07, you can see that Xia Xia sent Viole a message saying “If you don’t do as we say, everyone there will die.” That gave me the impression Xia Xia was trying to coerce Viole.

Please let me know what you think!
