Tower of God Season Two Episode 16: Khun could see why Bam support Wangnan Ja and his team

Wangnan Ja’s determination impressed Khun. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Khun had sent most of the team except Wangnan Ja to the ship. Wangnan Ja said he didn’t want to leave without retrieving Prince and Miseng Yeo. Khun had had enough of his idealism. He prepared to shoot Wangnan with a white bullet.

But Wangnan wasn’t kidding around. He made it clear he wasn’t leaving without his two teammates. Khun tried to explain that somethings, things just don’t work out. Sometimes, you just have to keep climbing. That’s the prevalent mind-set among most of the climbers, and I think Khun considered himself one of them.

Basically, Khun told him to be realistic and leave them behind.

Wangnan Ja said that he did not want to climb the tower that way. After a moment of reflection, Khun said to himself (02:01), “No wonder Bam helped them.”

The older I get, especially in this day and age, I appreciate loyalty. I even appreciate when someone recognizes that trait!

Favorite Moment from Tower of God Season Two Episode 16

Tower of God Season Two Episode 16: Bam was cool taking on painful burdens

Novick didn’t understand Bam’s motivations. Khun did. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

I get that living for others is considered unhealthy. In fact, in some cases, it can even be an addiction. Martyr Complex is a thing. I’ve seen that theme in several recent anime series, in fact. I get it.

There are times, though, that I want to root for a hero who goes the extra mile to help others – even if it’s to their detriment. I want to root for someone who demonstrates selfless love. It’s partly a theological thing; it’s partly a comfort food. I mean, I grew up cheering for Frodo.

“’I will take the Ring,’ he said, ‘though I do not know the way,’” (Tolkien, J.R.R.. The Fellowship Of The Ring: Being the First Part of The Lord of the Rings (p. 399). HarperCollins. Kindle Edition.) still, to this day, brings tears to my eyes.

That’s why my favorite moment was just after Bam defeated Shibisu (and the super annoying Vespa). Novick appeared out of the shadows and said he had executed Bam’s plan. Novick had sent (the also very annoying) Reflejo to the Archimedes. The guy didn’t understand why Bam had taken on so much.

“If you keep trying to do everything yourself, you’ll break,” Novick said (18:42).

Bam’s answer was the most Bam-like thing he’s said all season. He answered (18:47), “As long as everyone is safe, I don’t mind if I break.”

Tower of God Season Two Episode 16: Khun admired Bam's spirit

Khun understood what Bam meant. That’s one reason he admired Bam. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Evil folk see an attitude like that and take advantage of it. Decent people, though, may be inspired by what he’s doing. Look at Khun, or Wangnan Ja. Bam’s attitude encourages them to build stronger teams – teams that can punch far above their class.

That’s human. That’s the future. Small groups of manipulative people taking advantage of the rest is oh-so last couple of centuries. I’m ready for a future built through the efforts of people of good will, working together, toward a meaningful goal.

Yes, there’s still a corner of my stupid brain that’s still optimistic. Can’t seem to kill it. But then, maybe that’s a good thing.

What did you think of Bam’s dedication to saving Yuto? What were your favorite moments? I’d love to hear about them in the comments!
