Tower of God Season Two Episode 21 – Quick Summary
In Tower of God Season 2 episode 21, “The Beginning of Dawn,” Khun, Rak, and the rest of the team were desperate to rescue Viole. But they didn’t know where to find him – or even what condition he was in! If they can’t find him, how can they help him? Is Bam still even alive? And if he is, how long will he stay that way?
Note: This post may include spoilers, so be cautious.

Rak was not having her negativity. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Rak was upset and confused. Which is to say, it was a normal day for Rak. Which is unkind, but still made me chuckle. Guess it’s that kind of day. Anyway, he heard that Viole/Bam had left the FUG team. He couldn’t believe it. That wasn’t the plan. He protested.
Surprisingly, Yihwa Yeon backed up him, saying that there was no way Viole would betray Horyang and the others. “Even if he’s FUG and a bad person,” she added (04:40).
That was completely unacceptable to Rak.
“He’s not a bad turtle, Bun Turtle!” he said (04:42).
Rak’s tendency to reduce everyone to their turtle essence is a never-ending source of enjoyment for me.

Rak was all ready to go off on his own. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Setup: Sometimes the Mirror is Too Clear
Maybe I’m paying the price for dis-engaging with the series, at least on some level, but it sure seemed to me like there were a lot of factions interacting in a lot of different ways in this episode. It felt excessive. Again, it might just be my state of mind. After all, it wouldn’t be Tower of God without back-stabbing and intrigue.
Maybe that’s why I chose a moment of humorously expressed friendship as my favorite. All of the back-stabbing is awfully close to what’s going on in the real world, and I’m in a mode where I’m falling back to a defensible position. I’m strengthening alliances. I’m providing material comfort to my allies. You know, I’m just not that interested in injurious political machinations.
We got plenty of them incoming. I mean, just today, I read that a senator of a prominent party in the United States said we don’t need to stinking background checks. Because, let’s face it: no one in that party’s pretending to be law abiding anyway! So why go through the farce of pretending to care?
I find that I’m rather unforgiving of my former party.
Not that I’m bitter or anything. Well, I probably am, if I let myself think about it. Which I won’t for now.
Anyway. My favorite moment. Rak, demonstrating yet again that his patience is not infinite, was ready to go after Black Turtle. He’d had enough of waiting. He’d had enough of relying on others to save his friend. Rak was going to rip the world apart to get to his friend, or he was going to die trying.
Delivery: Friends to the End
Gotta respect that level of commitment.
Khun had just taken his Shower of Enlightenment. During which, he had talked things through with Shibisu, and Khun had experienced enlightenment – hence the name of the shower. He was coming back to bring his new truth to the team when he met Rak charging out of the room.
Khun, still drying his hair (water from the Shower of Enlightenment is really tenacious), asked where Rak thought he was going by himself.
“To the black turtle!” Rak said, his voice a little uncertain in front of Khun (15:31). Then, finding his resolve, he said, “Don’t think you can stop me, Blue Turtle!”
“I’ll go with you,” Khun said.
Rak charged off, fully expecting to commit an act of defiance. Then he skidded to a halt.
Rak was defiant. He does it well. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
“All right! Wait, what?”
I like a world where people work together. I like seeing Khun and Rak and Bun Turtle and the rest working together to save a friend they love. Maybe I’m not old fashioned, but I like a world where it’s generally recognized that people scheming to do things like melting Bam are the villains. Am I reading too much into an anime series? Maybe.
But I’ll take hope wherever I can find it.

That little scene with Rak and Khun was indeed cute and funny. Also I feel you on the real world political stuff. I’m in a similar position of falling back and tryin to support those around me. Hang in there!
Rak and Khun have such great chemistry!
I’m hanging. The situation is frustrating enough — but realizing that any perceived ability I had to influence it was an illusion is like the proverbial insult to injury!
