Tower of God Season Two Episode 23 – Quick Summary

In Tower of God Season 2 episode 23, “The End of Dawn,” Beta had the upper hand. Having thrust his hand through Wangnan Ja’s chest, Beta had interrupted the summoning process, so Viole was not incoming. Even the arrival of Rak, Yihwa Yeon, and Laure Phonsekal seemed unlikely to tip the balance. The team had hoped to add Viole to their team; now, their hopes of even saving Wangnan Ja seemed dim. Can Khun come up with a plan to save them?

Tower of God Season Two Episode 23: Beta's bragging did not impress Rak

Rak did not find Beta’s demands to be terribly fearsome. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

I’m not sure what it is. Usually, long-running jokes wear thin and I lose interest. But for whatever reason, Rak’s fixation on turtles is a never-ending source of hilarity. It fits in quiet moments; it fits in character-building moments. It even fits in action moments, like my favorite quote.

Beta was all indignant that Rak wouldn’t turn Wangan Ja over. Rak just didn’t care about Beta’s demand. It got to the point where Rak wanted to precisely communicate how little he cared about Beta’s demands.

Beta had been humbled a bit. Laure Phonsekal had removed the worm/parasite that had given him the right to participate in this team. He did so by upsetting Beta’s sense of balance and making him vomit up the creature.

So, when Beta tried to explain how they did not want to make him any more angry so they’d better turn Wangnan Ja over to him, Rak gave him a concise, clear answer.

Rak said (09:24), “I think not, you impudent puke turtle!”

It seems that puking in front of  his enemies did nothing to enhance Beta’s mystique.

Tower of God Season Two Episode 23: Yihwa Yeon's persistent practicing finally paid off.

Good shot! Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

I really didn’t like the jokes at Yihwa Yeon’s expense. You remember the ones – where she tried to cook and almost poisoned everyone? It was funny when Yor did it because was a goddess of assassination. The humor was from the disparity between her extremes. When it came to Yihwa Yeon, the humor just felt mean.

YMMV. I’m just talking about my perspective here.

In this episode, though, the narrative decided to show that Yihwa Yeon was more than a joke. She was a character who had worked hard to perfect her skills. And that effort paid off.

Laure Phonsekal had just made the parasite worm thing leave Beta’s system. Beta, undaunted, prepared to re-ingest it, this time with a promise to make it a lot more difficult to remove. Beta was out of everyone’s reach. He prepared to re-ingest the parasite.

Tower of God Season Two Episode 23: Beta was surprised to see his parasite worm incinerated

Beta was as shocked as anyone! Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Yihwa Yeon took careful aim and unleashed her fire (07:33). She precisely hit the parasite and removed it from the playing field. In other words, she incinerated it. Khun and Rak were shocked – but she had pulled it off. Maybe now she’ll get the respect she deserves!
