TRINITY SEVEN Episode 4 Review – Quick Summary

In TRINITY SEVEN Episode 4, “Labyrinth and Magic Gunner,” Arata Kasuga and Lilith Asami arrived in class to find everyone asleep. Despite Arata’s initial guess that it was Lilith’s fault for being a boring teacher, the headmaster, Biblia Gakuenchou, said it is yet another breakdown phenomenon. Where did this one come from? Is it somehow Arata’s fault — again? And what can they do to fix it? Because if they don’t, it just might consume the whole world.

Note: This post may include spoilers, so be cautious.

Favorite Quote from TRINITY SEVEN Episode 4

TRINITY SEVEN Episode 4: Arata knows exactly how to tease Lilith.

Lilith has a tendency to make it easy for Arata to make her feel flustered. I wonder if she’s secretly into that sort of thing? Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Arata really likes teasing Lilith, and it’s easy to see why. She embarrasses so easily! Unlike Arin, who has no qualms standing stark naked in front of Arata, Lilith blushes at the slightest provocation.

In this episode, when they walked into the classroom to find everyone, even Selina Sherlock, asleep, Lilith wondered what had happened. Arata had a ready answer.

“Maybe everyone’s boycotting your class?” he said (02:16). Seeing her embarrassed reaction, he added, “You need to shape up, Lilith. This is what happens when you neglect your duty as a teacher!”

She really should make it harder for him to embarrass her! Because it’s pretty clear he’s not going to stop on his own.

Best in Show Moment for TRINITY SEVEN Episode 4

TRINITY SEVEN Episode 4: Levi has her own plan

Levi wanted Arata to get into the fight. Partly for altruistic reasons, partly for personal reasons. She’s such an interesting character! Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Setup: Characters Like Levi Make the Show

The characters continue to be this series’ biggest draw. That, and how they interact with the magic system with its Themas and Archives. It’ll probably come as no surprise to you that my favorite moments revolves around Levi, given that she’s provided half of my favorite quotes so far. Levi is as forward with her flirtations with Arata as is Arin, and she’s also a skilled ninja. That’s just a cool combination!

In this episode, she told Arata how her Thema was Expectations. She didn’t expect anything from anyone, so she expected everything from everyone. Bit of a difficult concept to get your head around, isn’t it? But it made sense to her, so I went with it.

TRINITY SEVEN Episode 4: Levi's Thema is Expectation

Levi explained to Arata that her Thema was Expectation. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

As the battle against the fantasy dragon wore on, Levi took a break and asked Arata if he wanted to get into the fight. So far, his lack of magical skill had been a real hindrance. In short, he’d been useless in the fight! So he had been forced to take cover and observe. He didn’t like that much!

Delivery: Levi Elevated Arata

Despite Arata’s protests that he was useless in this battle, she told him that she wanted him to get into the fight. “The battle of a mage who can erase breakdown phenomena…” she began (17:14). “If you want to find your cousin, you’ll have to fight a battle like that eventually.”

TRINITY SEVEN Episode 4: Levi inspired Arata

Levi’s words inspired Arata. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

It turns out her oblique reference to Hijiri Kasuga was exactly what Arata needed. Her words got him fired up to figure out how to use his magic. What I liked about this scene is that it showed once again how characters like Levi, or Arin, or even Lilith have their own goals and agendas. They aren’t afraid to pursue them, sometimes at great cost. Here, Levi not only wanted Arata to help save her friend Yui. It seemed like she herself wanted Arata to learn what he could do. I’ve said it before, and I’ll probably say it again. This kind of initiative or agency is why I really like this show.
