Wistoria: Wand and Sword Episode 06 – Quick Summary
In Wistoria: Want and Sword episode 06, “Between Pride and Passion,” Will was shocked when Sion turned on him and Colette. Will could not even understand Sion’s explanation – and all the while, Julius played his own game – and its less than pleasant implications for Will. Can Will reason things out with Sion? Will Colette survive Julius’ attack? And how will the crowd react to Sion’s betrayal?
Note: This post may include spoilers, so be cautious.
Favorite Quote from Wistoria: Wand and Sword Episode 06
Colette has a forceful personality – and I’m here for it. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
I have a sneaking suspicion this show is more aware of what it’s doing than it seems. Will’s clearly the protagonist, right? And Colette is seen as one of the “good guys.” On the surface, it looked like they picked Sion because he fit in with their plans.
But as Dawnstorm pointed out in the comments for my review of the previous episode, there’s a lot more to it than that. Will and Colette, even if not intentionally, used Sion. Colette in particular took advantage of him through the way she asked him to join the team. I think that tension was intentional – I think the writer intended for Will and Colette to be in the wrong here, at least from Sion’s perspective.
That tension made my favorite quote more amusing. Colette had just thrown up a wall between Will and Sion – after Sion basically professed his love for Will (at least, that’s how I read it). Because of her apparently victorious battle with one of Julius’ clones, her clothes were in quite a state. I hate to say it, but it was a good look for her. Sion, though, saw it as indecent.
“I’m indecent?” she yelled at him (20:01). “This is is all your fault for fighting in the first place!”
Which, Colette, was all your fault for not bringing the guy into your confidence! I had to laugh at her hypocrisy – especially if it was accidental. That just makes her all the more interesting!
Favorite Moment from Wistoria: Wand and Sword Episode 06
She embarrasses pretty easily for being an Earth Princess. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Setup: Crossover with Sword Oratoria?
I’m glad I read the Reddit threads about the show I’m watching. I almost always pick up cool details that I missed while watching the show. For example, I thought I recognized a couple of the incidental characters this week, but I didn’t think much of it. The Reddit thread (link below) mentioned that at least two of the characters were from Sword Oratoria: Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? On the Side.
And what about Sion’s confession? I did not see that coming. Though I have to say that Will is accumulating admirers at a rate even beyond the Bell Cranel. Will seems just as clueless about it, too. And just as a side note – if Bell ends up with someone other than Ryuu Lion I’m going to be disappointed. Though I have to admit I’ll be sad to see Syr Flova. She seems like such a kind soul!
I thought they looked familiar. It took the Reddit thread to remind me who they were. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Anyway. On to my favorite moment. It’s one of those simple, throw-away moments. I mean, sure, the battle scenes are a lot of fun. Seeing Will try to talk Sion down had a dramatic impact. And I almost – almost – picked Will landing in the arena to challenge Julius as my moment. That was pretty cool.
Delivery: Will’s Just a Nice Guy
But, no. My favorite moment happened just after my favorite quote. Colette advanced on Sion and made it clear he was going to let Will leave. Sion tried to protest, but Colette explained his situation in very direct terms. Sion didn’t really want to fight. He had a different goal when all’s said and done. So he backed down. Or maybe the sight of Colette, her clothes in tatters, overwhelmed him.
Dude might have it bad for Will. But he also seems to admire Colette’s brand of beauty.
Even as she tried to bury Sion in guilt by saying this was Will’s big chance to look good, she felt Will drape his cloak her her shoulders. She went silent.
“Thank you, Colette,” Will said (20:31), utterly oblivious to the impact he’d just had on Colette.
Predictably, but no less adorable because it was so predictable, Colette blushed (20:34).
Will completely derailed Colette’s rant. It was a pretty good one, too, if quite a lot unfair to Sion. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
I actually have a narrative reason for picking this moment. High-impact action is run, yes. But in too sustained a dosage, it loses its effect. Sprinkle in a character moment here and there; toss in some humor; and the action is even more effective. I noticed this today because I just finished writing an action-oriented chapter in my latest novel, and trying to get the pacing right was fresh in my mind. I hope I did as good a job as this show’s been doing!
What did you think of the crowd’s reaction to Sion attacking Will? What were your favorite moments? Feel free to let me know in the comments!

I am going to need an explanation of how the fight was Colette’s fault and what confidence there even was to bring Sion into and how any of that changes his responsibility for suddenly lashing out because of issues which are entirely his own.
When Colette asked Sion to join her team, I noticed two things that candidly bothered me. She asked him in an almost seductive way — like she knew he was attracted to her so she capitalized on it. Taken alone, that’s not a problem. She’s smart and she used the assets available to her. But second, she neglected to mention that the guy Sion hated (or acted like he hated) above all others was also on the team.
The third thing that bugged me was that Colette and Will had their plan of attack all laid out. They excluded Sion from any discussion (at least, we saw none on screen). They relegated him to a side role, when it’s well-known that one of this competition’s goals is to showcase everyone’s skills for the scouts.
Does that justify him turning on Will? Nah. A betrayal is its own thing. But it at least provides a context. I have no idea if Sion would have even responded had Will and Colette reached out to him. But it’s impossible to know because they didn’t even try.
What I liked about this scenario is how realistic it is given who all three of them are and their environment. No one’s at fault entirely; but they all contributed to the dangerous situation. It’s messy, like their real life would be.
Hmmm. K. That’s a fair assessment.
