Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs Episode 10 – Quick Summary

In Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs Episode 10, “The Overly Aggressive Sagiri / The Seaside School and Kogarashi,” Kogarashi looked forward to the school trip this year. Before meeting Yuuna, his attempts to go on school trips ended with events like marching with an army of the dead! Unfortunately, multiple yokai had different ideas. Can Kogarashi manage to enjoy himself? Will Yuuna have fun with her friends like Chisaki Miyazaki. Most importantly: can Sagiri find a swimsuit that she feels comfortable in?

Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs Episode 10: Kogarashi knows that Satoshi has ulterior motives

It’s hard to get one past Kogarashi. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

This was a beach episode. I’m going to go out on a limb and say it lived up to expectations. My expectations, anyway. The shtick of Sagiri trying to find a swimsuit, lying to Kogarashi to get him to go along, surviving fellow ninja Urara Urakata force her to try on all sorts of suits, only to settle on one that Kogarashi praised – standard stuff, sure. But it worked for me because it was all in character.

And there wasn’t a mean spirited joke anywhere to be seen.

My favorite moment was an outgrowth of that. Everyone arrived at the beach and were having a good time. Kogarashi took it pretty much in stride. He’s surrounded by those beautiful women all the time. At the inn, he lives with Yaya and Nonko. The bottom line for Kogarashi? He’s used to it.

But his friend isn’t. Satoshi Hyoudou was in some kind of religious ecstasy as he gazed at the beauty all around. Overcome with gratitude, he told Kogarashi he was super glad they’d become friends.

Kogarashi isn’t a dim-witted main character (MC). That’s part of what makes him fun. His response to Satoshi?

Kogarashi said (13:45), “I’m touched to hear you say that. Your reason for the sentiment aside…”

He’s polite even when he sees through someone. Very cool!

Favorite Moment from Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs Episode 10

Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs Episode 10: Kogarashi would have been happy to help Sagiri shop -- yokai or not

Kogarashi made it clear he would have been happy to just help her with shopping – no deception needed. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

I’d forgotten one of the aspects of this show that made it a long-time favorite: the people are really good to each other! Mostly. But even when they aren’t, like when Urara decides to attack Kogarashi, it’s to act kinda responsible – in the context of her membership in the Chuuma ninja clan.

In other words, these are decent folks, for the most part. They’re people I could work with if I had to. That’s worth a lot, especially in this day and age. The less said about that, the better.

My favorite moment is a little thing. Easy to miss. In fact, I had completely forgotten about it before I rewatched the episode to get ready for this review.

Sagiri couldn’t just come out and ask Kogarashi to help her choose a swimsuit. Despite being a front-line offensive weapon, she’s shy. So she lied and said there was a ghost they had to investigate. I thought it was endearing how Urara picked up on the deception and kept it going for Sagiri’s sake.

Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs Episode 10: Sagiri is still learning she can trust Kogarashi

Sagiri’s having a hard time getting used to the idea that she can think of Kogarashi as a friend. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Kogarashi, as we’ve talked about, is no fool. He figured out there was no yokai. On the way home, he asked about it, just to be sure. Sagiri didn’t know what to say.

Kogarashi wasn’t upset at all. He said (09:27), “I still would’ve went with you if it was just shopping.”

He wanted to go to the beach, too – and he seemed to want to put her at ease. He’s been like that with her since they first met (when he wasn’t dodging her weapons or other forms of attack). Kogarashi is not trying to attack her; his nose doesn’t bleed when he sees her changing (and I honestly believe that was an accident). He’s just trying to treat her as a friend.

I could stand with more decent folks like that in my life!
