Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs Episode 3 – Quick Summary
In Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs Episode 3, “Yuuna Goes to School,” Kogarashi Fuyuzora was super excited to start high school. His elementary school days had been a disaster. His middle school days were taken up by spirit medium training. Now, he resolved to enjoy the springtime life to the fullest! Unfortunately for him, Yuuna wanted to attend, too, and she’s a curious, absent-minded ghost.

If he had just left that last question unsaid… Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
I’m going to spend the last half to two-thirds of this post praising Kogarashi’s calm intelligence under pressure. But for the first part, I’m going to point out that there are times when the guy speaks without thinking.
Take, for example, the moments following Kogarashi trying to prevent Yuuna from closely examining the fabric of Chisaki Miyazaki’s skirt. If we are to believe Yuuna’s testimony regarding the incident, she was merely curious about the fabric, because she wanted to emulate it. She claims exposing Miyazaki’s undergarments was an accidental – and unintentional – side effect.
Apparently, Yuuna can emulate clothing as part of her spirit body. In fact, her yukata is itself merely an extension of her spirit body.
We know this because she explained it to Kogarashi – after the entire class, including Miyazaki, blamed the incident on him. But Kogarashi is a nice guy. He accepted Yuuna’s apology. But then, he took one step too far.
He said (04:56), “If your clothes are part of your spiritual body, then it’s like you’re always naked?”
Moments thereafter, Kogarashi got blamed for the entire class being levitated, desks and all, into the air. Seriously – he should have known when to be quiet!

Kogarashi knew it was only a matter of time. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Setup: Keep Calm and Carry On
Kogarashi is a good guy. I’ve seen many – too many! – protagonists freak out under pressure. On his first day of school, on the first day of his “real springtime,” he got blamed for flipping up Miyazaki’s skirt. That would have ended many highschooler’s careers. But he kept his wits about him. Knowing his skill was valuable, he even admitted he was a spirit medium and offered to help anyone who asked.
We saw a great example of that in my favorite moment. Miyazaki worked up the courage to ask him to help her with a possession problem she had at home. He punched out all her stuff animals in a bid to de-possess them. That didn’t work. But he kept his calm. He asked Yuuna to peek inside the stuffed animals. That was an idea I thought was creative. Why rip up the toys when you could just peer inside them?
It was a good idea – in theory. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
That almost worked – until the toy unveiled a terrifying expression and startled Yuuna. Yuuna’s startle reflex is apparently a severe poltergeist event. In this case, when everything crashed to the ground, Kogarashi ended up in a compromising position with Miyazaki.
Delivery: Kogarashi, Calm Under Pressure
A lesser protagonist would have slunk away in shame. He would have bemoaned his fate. Maybe he would have blamed Yuuna. But what did Kogarashi do? He did pretend to slink away. But he still lurked just outside. He took the risk of being discovered and labeled a stalker because he wanted to help Miyazaki.
Which turned out well, because just before she went to bed, her toys attacked – violently. Kogarashi was there in an instant, and he punched the daylights out of the attacking teddies. Then, he held one aloft and exposed a line of spiritual energy.
He came up with a great plan. He even worked in enough time to lend his jacket to Miyazaki. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Why did he do this?
As he explained to Yuuna ahead of time (14:48), “So we pretended to leave Miyazaki’s house and wait for the culprit for use their spells again… When we see the spirit line stretching out from Miyazaki’s room, you follow it from the air, and find the culprit on the other end.”
He kept his wits, and by doing so, he saved Miyazaki from being harassed by handsy stuffed animals. And do you know what else was cool? Yuuna was excited to help! She’s clumsy, sure, and her startle reflex is a terror. But like Kogarashi, she had a good heart.
