Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs Episode 4 – Quick Summary
In Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs Episode 4, “Watching Youkai! Sagiri and Yaya are Cautious,” the Chuuma Ninja Army assigned Sagiri Ameno a mission – with a twist. She couldn’t do it alone. She needed to be ask a man to help her, because the yokai only attacked couples. Can Sagiri work up the courage to ask Kogarashi Fuyuzora to help her? If she does, will he survive the experience? Because it’s not the yokai he should worry about!

Favorite Quote from Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs Episode 4
Sagiri’s learning she can trust this guy — accidental compromising positions aside! Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
The more episodes I watch, the more I think Kogarashi is just a genuinely nice guy. He remained patient when Yuuna threw him to the ground from a great height. He didn’t lash out at Sagiri when she spoke harshly to him. And he didn’t seem to hold it against Yaya when she and Sagiri tried to get him kicked out of the inn.
In this episode, he had to put up with Sagiri’s attitude again. Again, he handled it with grace and dignity. I have to wonder if he’s the first man she’s met that can respond to her that way. It has to be revelatory to her if that’s the case.
But on to my favorite quote. I could explain his kindness by saying he’s just trying to get in good with the pretty girls. Maybe that’s part of it, but it’s not all. My favorite quote came after Sagiri explained their mission. She talked about how the yokai attacked only couples. I liked Kogarashi’s response.
“So are the victims okay?” he asked (06:28).
He could have just let the moment pass, but his interest seemed honest! His character is one of the things that sets this series apart.
Favorite Moment from Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs Episode 4
I sometimes crave a series where the drama has nothing to do with any of the main characters being mean to one another. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Setup: This Series Stands Out
My Anime List lists this show’s genres as Comedy, Romance, Supernatural, and Ecchi. If I look at series categorized in a similar way, like To Love-Ru, there are lot of similarities. The ecchi elements are very well done. So are the comedic elements. But there’s something this show has that few others in the ecchi space offer.
Let me give you an example, then cap it off with my favorite moment. Remember the part where, just after my favorite quote, Sagiri and Kogarashi were just chatting about the youkai? He made an off-handed joke, and I think he meant to both cheer her up and acknowledge her strength, which, of course, he would respect and admire.
“Maybe it sensed your murderous intent and is too afraid to come out,” he said (08:12). He chuckled good naturedly.
Kogarashi was trying to keep the conversation light. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Sagiri didn’t laugh. Nor did she get angry. Instead, looking a little flushed, she said, “That could be true. If the black fog doesn’t appear, it’s probably because I’m not feminine enough.”
To Love-Ru would have played that moment for comedy. Maybe showed Lala say that, then blow her clothes up and embarrass Rito or something. But here, the moment was serious. Kogarashi didn’t know what to so, so he listened. She felt embarrassed, but didn’t launch into a tsundere attack. It was a heartfelt moment where she opened up to him.
That scene gave me the feeling that I was watching two people trying to figure out how to talk to each other. It was way more than I expected from an ecchi series!
Delivery: Chilling on the Roof
That’s doubly true for my favorite moment. Yaya discovered that she not only liked Kobarashi’s grilled fish. She loved it. It was like her favorite dish in the world. So Kogarashi wasn’t surprised when he asked her to grill a plate for her. A very big plate.
He brought it to her on the inn’s roof, where she was just hanging out. Kogarashi didn’t seem to mind making a delivery; he seems like he wants to meet these women wherever they are, emotionally or physically.
He asked if she could eat the huge plateful of food. He also asked (20:40), “And you told me not to put salt on it?”
“Because I heard cats shouldn’t have too much salt,” Yaya answered (20:44).
He assumed she referred to her cat-self (she does have cute ears and a tail, after all!). She said (20:50), “Yaya prefers it with salt, but…”
Yaya preferred the fish salted instead of plain. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Just then, the cat god Nekogami-sama appeared from within Yaya. Yaya didn’t want the fish for herself. She wanted to share it with Nekogami-sama! The cat god seemed to seriously enjoy the fish, judging from the mouthfuls she slammed down.
Looking at Kogarashi as she fed Nekogami-sama, Yaya said (21:04), “I wanted the Cat God to be able to eat it, too.”
Nekogami-sama rubbed up against Kogarashi to express her delight. Yaya and Kogarashi then curled up with the huge cat god and just chilled on the roof as they looked over the city at dusk. The show didn’t need to give us such an authentic, emotionally warm moment. But it did. It’s giving us ecchi and characters we care about. That’s something that sets this series apart, at least for me. It’s even better when you re-watch the show!
What did you think of how Kogarashi and Sagiri defeated the Youkai? What were your favorite moments? I’d love to hear about them in the comments!
