Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs Episode 8 – Quick Summary

In Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs Episode 8, “Oboro Stops at Nothing,” the minions of Genshirou Ryuuga had captured Kogarashi and forced him to kneel before the dragon god. While Kogarashi tried to distract the dragon god, Sagiri tried to rescue Yuuna. Unfortunately, she ran into Oboro. It looks like Kogarashi’s and Sagiri’s plan is in tatters. Can they salvage it? Or will Yuuna take action on her own to protect them – and doom herself?

Favorite Quote from Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs Episode 8

Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs Episode 8: Sagiri was astonished at how powerful Kogarashi turned out to be

Sagiri was so astonished she forgot to be embarrassed. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Just how strong is Kogarashi? We got a hint in my favorite quote.

After he’d been captured, Kogarashi planned to distract the dragon god by pretending that he and Yuuna had a robust physical relationship. His goal had been to give Sagiri time to rescue Yuuna and get her to safety. It was a good plan. But Oboro turned out to be stronger than they anticipated. She captured Sagiri and took both Sagiri and Yuuna to the courtyard where Kogarashi reamined in shackles.

Kogarashi pushed a little harder. He wanted to force Genshirou to make a mistake. But the human pushed a little too hard. He infuriated the dragon god to the point he kicked Kogarashi into the ceiling.

Which he survived. The only real result was that the impact broke the shackles. Kogarashi gave him one chance to release Sagiri and Yuuna. Which, of course, Genshirou declined to do.

So Kogarashi punched him. Hard. So hard that the dragon god demolished his castle and crashed into the stone ceiling.

No one was more shocked than Sagiri and Yuuna.

“I can’t believe this,” Sagiri said. “What just happened?”

Her shock was delightful. She’s no slouch herself, so she knew power when she saw that. And she just saw Kogarashi make short work of a being whose minion Sagiri couldn’t defeat. Very cool how she wasn’t afraid to admit she was freaked out.

Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs Episode 8: Kogarashi might be strong, but Nonko seems to be right up there with him

Her timing was perfect. And Kogarashi isn’t the only one who’s strong! Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Setup: Kogarashi, Trapped by his Own Ethics

In my favorite quote, we saw that Kogarashi is seriously strong. As in, there are no beings in this episode, including the dragon god himself, who could take him out. You’d think, then, that there are no stakes here for Kogarashi. He could just punch his way out of anything.

But, as he said around 10:43, “The only things that I can’t punch are women.”

Even Kogarashi seemed to think that in the context of this underground cavern, he was invincible. He didn’t bat an eye when Oboro challenged him. They even went a few rounds. I wondered what he was doing – didn’t he just say he didn’t punch women?

Turns out, he didn’t know Oboro was a woman! She saw she had no chance of defeating him, so she let one of his punches almost hit her. With just enough force to slash her top open.

Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs Episode 8: Yuuna knew something that Sagiri didn't!

Yuuna was ahead of Sagiri on this one. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

At that point, Kogarashi couldn’t help but notice that Oboro was, in fact, a woman.

Kogarashi was aghast.

Funny side note: Yuuna couldn’t believe Kogarashi hadn’t noticed. To Yuuna, it was obvious Oboro was a woman! But Sagiri thought (13:28), “That was a woman?”

I like seeing Sagiri and Kogarshi on the same wavelength.

Delivery: It’s Good to Have Friends

Anyway. Things looked  bad for our hero. He couldn’t hit Oboro. Though she wasn’t anywhere near his strength, she could pound him with impunity. I found myself wondering how he was going to get out of that.

That’s when my favorite moment happened.

Sagiri could see that individually, Oboro’s attacks did little damage. But she knew how things had to end up. Yuuna was beside herself with worry. Kogarashi himself had no idea what to do. He seemed frozen as he tried to work out how to get out of this.

As Oboro swung with what she intended to be a seriously damaging blow, a hand reached out and grabbed the sword. A bare hand. Grabbed the sword. You could hear the metallic clank as the blade stopped cold.

Oboro was shocked. Kogarashi was shocked. Sagiri and Yuuna were – you guessed it! – shocked.

Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs Episode 8: Sagiri and Yuuna felt shocked to see Nonko

Sagiri and Yuuna were shocked. So was Kagarashi and Oboro, but their surprised expresses weren’t as compelling as these. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

The camera pulled back, and there was my favorite character Nonko (14:07). With a bottle of sake in one hand and the word in the other, she said, “Hi everyone! It looks like this place is hopping!”

Turns out Koyuzu Shigaraki had escaped to go find Nonko and Yaya. It was great seeing them arrive in the dramatic nick of time. The show did a good job of ratcheting up the tension. Sure, we all knew neither Kogarashi nor Oboro were going to die. But it was still an interesting dilemma for our hero. And it’s always good to see Nonko.

What did you think of their solution to keeping the dragon god away? What were your favorite moments? Feel free to let me know in the comments!
