Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs Episode 9 – Quick Summary

In Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs Episode 9, “Chisaki of the Yuragi Inn,” Chisaki decides to accept Yuuna’s offer to visit the inn. She was prepared for some level of hi-jinx. But she wasn’t prepared for the sight that greeted her: a ¾ naked Oboro straddling Kogarashi in the entryway! Will Chisaki be able to overlook that sort of thing? Will the other residents at the inn accept her? And how will Sagiri react to someone she described as a “feminine monster?”

Note: This post may include spoilers, so be cautious.

Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs Episode 9: Chisaki dazzled Sagiri with femininity

That’s a lot of femininity. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

The conflict Sagiri feels between her immense power and her femininity is funny, but it’s also sad. It’s a testament to her character that I have any reaction to her at all. It’s even better that I want her to be happy and self-confident.

That said, I still had to laugh at her reaction to Chisaki’s visit. When she first arrived, Sagiri couldn’t help but notice how feminine Chisaki looked. Sagiri doesn’t seem to realize she had nothing to worry about in the regard, but worry she did.

Later, the episode took it to an extreme for the sake of comedy. Chisaki insisted on helping Nakai Chitose prepare their meal. Turns out that not only is Chisaki popular, and attractive, and friendly, and stylish. She’s an outstanding cook.

The sheer femininity overwhelmed Sagiri’s senses. She had to hold up her hands and recoil from the sight.

“I can’t look at her directly!” she cried (06:10), trying to protect her eyes. Fortunately, Yuuna and Nonko tried to reassure their friend. Though Chisaki’s brilliance was hard to withstand.

Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs Episode 9: Kogarashi did not take advantage of Chisaki's compromised position

It’s not that difficult to do the right thing. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Setup: Pretty Standard Set Up

Have you ever checked out my Caw Out Awards? I used to publish them more often. Someday, I’ll publish more, but that day’s not today. I bring it up because I’ve already celebrated my favorite moment in the most Caw Out Award: Most Impressive Demonstration of Respect for the Week.

Before I talk about it, I’d like to remind you that this is episode 9 of a clearly ecchi comedy. So, we have to expect moments of ecchi comedy. In other words, if this sort of thing disturbs you, probably best to bail now.

All set? Okay. We know that Yuuna shares a bedroom with Kogarashi. This particular night, he planned to work all night, so Chisaki slept over with Yuuna and Koyuzu Shigaraki. In Yuuna’s room.

Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs Episode 9: I think we all know where this is going

Some moments announce themselves. Meme from Know Your Meme

You just know that Kogarashi is going to stumble in at some point. Not only that, there’s going to be embarrassing nudity involved. And guess what? You’d be right! Between Yuuna and Koyuzu, Chisaki ended up in a state of advanced undress. That was just before Koyuzu decided she was dreaming, which wasn’t an unreasonable conclusion. After all, why else would Chisaki, demure as she was, dangle her breasts right in front of Koyuzu?

I’ll give credit to the writers and artists. They set the scene perfectly. Chisaki recoiled from Koyuzu’s attention and ended up planting her nakedness on the sleeping Kogarasi. She tried to get away but fell face first, which meant she had her butt in the air.

Delivery: Elevated Delivery

She’s mortified, of course. I really did feel bad for her. But she was in good hands – so to speak. Kogarashi woke up and saw an unfamiliar feminine bottom right beside him. Maybe he’s used to that sort of thing, given Yuuna’s slumbering gymnastics, but he didn’t freak out. His nose didn’t bush blood. He didn’t turn into a hungry wolf, no matter what Chisaki’s “mama” warned her about.

What did Kogarashi do?

To the extent one can be gentlemanly under these conditions, Kogarashi did the gentlemanly thing. He didn’t make a scene. He covered her up (19:14), then went back to sleep.

Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs Episode 9: Kogarashi turned aside Oboro's advances

If Chisaki had any doubts about Kogarashi’s intentions – and she did! – this moment ended them. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Well, he tried to. Oboro had other ideas. But my favorite moment was Kogarashi treating her with kindness and consideration. We know from previous episodes that he’s not unmoved by feminine beauty. But I think he sensed the situation had something to do with Yuuna’s lunacy with an assist from Koyuzu. He probably figured Chisaki (I think he knew it was her) had probably gone through quite enough.

Moments like that, where Kogarashi proves he’s a real man – that is, a man who’s in control of his passons, not an animal that’s a slave to them – elevates this to something more than “just” an ecchi comedy. Yeah, it might be my wishful thinking. But hey, some of us prefer illusion to despair!
